Scattered news

Munster Rugby

Munster Rugby

As Munster Rugby is close to clinch the Magners League title for the second time and is getting ready for Heineken Cup Saturday’s semi final clash with Leinster at Croke Park, Bath Rugby managed to grab the last ticket for the Guinness Premiership semi-finals when they’ll face an away match at Leicester Tigers who torned Bath’s Heineken Cup dreams last 11/04 less than 50 seconds from full-time to seal a dramatic 20-15 victory for Leicester at the Walkers Stadium……

In the meantime…

  • David Wallace is named Munster Rugby Player of the Year at the 2009 Munster Rugby Awards in Thomond Park last 25/04, when he fought off competiton from fellow nominees Paul O’Connell, John Hayes and Niall Ronan, and now joins previous winners Ronan O’Gara and John Hayes in receiving the player of the year accolade.
  • Tomas O’Leary will miss the remainder of Munster’s Heineken Cup and Magners League matches and the Lions trip to South Africa after sustaining a fractured ankle in the opening stages of the Magners League game last night against The Scarlets in Musgrave Park. Get well soon, Tom!!
  • as a consequence to O’Leary injury Scotland captain Mike Blair is philosophical about his chances of being called up for the Lions tour of South Africa.

  • Bad news also for Leinster: Rob Kearney has been ruled out of Leinster’s Heineken Cup semi-final against Munster on Saturday because has not recovered from the bout of mumps!
  • After much speculation, Bath Rugby are now pleased to confirm that Olly Barkley will be returning to The Rec at the start of the 2009/10 season on a two year contract. Saracens Ben Skirving will be joining also the club on a two-year deal at the start of the 2009/10 season.
  • He may have missed the rugby season but Danny Grewcock and his crutches have given their precious support in a different way and he has been nominated in the EDF Energy Community Player of the Season at next month’s Guinness Premiership Awards, along with Joe Shaw, Andy Hazell, Northampton Saints and Andy Kyriacou. Well done Danny!
  • And last but not least…. Thanks to ADIDAS you can now undress swap jerseys with Richie McCaw, Ali Williams, Tamati Ellison, Liam Messam and Jimmy Cowan… don’t miss the chance! 😉
