(waiting for…) England’s call

Danny Grewcock

Danny Grewcock's Bond version

This weekend Martin Johnson debuts as England coach at Twickenham with the Pacific Islands. We know a lot about Johnson as a player – proud, committed, uncompromising – but we still have to learn about him as a coach, and I’m curious to know how he will be able to deal with this new job.

Anyway, Johnson will field 4 uncapped players, Nick Kennedy, the only new cap in the forwards, Ugo Monye, Riki Flutey, and Delon Armitage, while last week he has appointed Steve Borthwick as England skipper on a permanent basis. Steve has already stood in for Phil Vickery

on three occasions – against Italy in Rome and then on the nightmare summer tour to New Zealand. He distinguished himself as Bath Captain in the past, and now at Saracens, and he’s a proven leader.

But as a player I’ve always thought he is more effective when pairing with long time team and England mate, Danny Grewcock, who is fully fit now and ready to answer England’s call once again…

Danny Grewcock is 36 today and still rocks. 😉

  1. Yep, fit and “rocks”, but he can’t stop getting carded every time he plays.

  2. That’s part of his “charm”! ;-)))
