Cuppa time

Here is the great dilemma of the week: going out for a trip in the country to enjoy the last days of nice sunny weather before Autumn breaks in, or lying down on the sofa with a lager (just one ’cause I’m on a diet!) watching as many rugby games as possible?

Munster, 2007-08 Heineken Cup Champions

This weekend tv offers a large number of games, starting from the first round of the most exciting club competition in the world, the Heineken Cup, to NPC quarters and Currie Cup semis.

As for the H-Cup, I’m afraid the Italian teams Calvisano and Benetton Treviso will be once again the number-makers. Treviso have a very strong pool with Leicester Tigers, Ospreys and Perpignan. While Calvisano will face Biarritz, Cardiff Blues and Gloucester. My “forecast” is that, probably they won’t be able to win any game. Treviso’s is a pool of Death while Calvisano, which didn’t display a good form in the early stages of Italian Super10 championship, might call themselves lucky if the come away with a win either with Biarritz, which is having bad times, or with Cardiff Blues, if the Welsh are *very* distracted!

Sunday will also see Bath Rugby coming back to the H-Cup after few years in the purgatory of the “Challenge Cup“. Bath, which won the trophy in 1997-98, will face Toulouse, which has won the very first edition of the Cup 1995-96 and two more times, in one of the thoughtest game of the first round! Glasgow Warriors and Newport Gwent Dragons complete their pool.
